Taking a break sounds simple but unless you are disciplined it is easy to forget to take a break from your busy schedule. Working long hours without any break is very bad for your health, causing an increase in your stress levels, the risk of weight gain and also increasing your risk of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.

Breaks do not have to be for long. Just a 10 minute break away from your desk and work is all it takes for you to begin to relax and your blood pressure, heart rate and muscle tension to decrease.

Try listening to a short 5-10 minute relaxation or meditation cd while at your desk. Alternatively if this is not possible try taking several 1 minute breaks throughout the day, use these short breaks to close your eyes and take deep breaths while trying to clear your mind and relax your body.

Schedule some short breaks into your day for one week and you will see and feel the benefits for yourself.
